Cruise Holidays To Skagway, Alaska

Overview

Skagway has the most commercial feel of all the Alaskan ports, and is the most reminiscent of the Gold Rush, with one long, straight main street, nowadays lined with gift shops, jewellers and saloon bars, including the famous Red Onion Saloon, which has a brothel museum upstairs. Ships dock at the end of Broadway Street, a reasonable stroll from the shops and an easy walk to the start of the White Pass and Yukon Railroad.

For many, this is the reason for coming. The ride through the White Pass in a vintage train offers amazing views (unless it's foggy) and takes the best part of a day.

Otherwise, there are floatplane tours over the glaciers, sea kayaking, whale-watching (although you will usually see whales from the ship) and glacier expeditions. You can do self-guided hikes in the Klondike Gold Rush National Historic Park from downtown Skagway. There are historic buildings as well as walking trails of varying difficulty here.
