Corfu is one of the loveliest of the Ionian islands, with gentle hills, dazzlingly blue sea and brilliant, subtropical flowers and gardens. It appears in Homer's Odyssey and is rich in history.

Ships call at Corfu Town, the capital, and dock 1 ½ miles from the town centre, where there are shops, restaurants, museums, various historical monuments and a rather dried-out cricket pitch, a legacy left by the British. Corfu also has strong Venetian influences, which you can see in the architecture.
