Cruise Holidays To Corfu

Overview

CorfuCorfu is one of the loveliest of the Ionian islands, with gentle hills, dazzlingly blue sea and brilliant, subtropical flowers and gardens. It appears in Homer's Odyssey and is rich in history.

Ships call at Corfu Town, the capital, and dock 1 ½ miles from the town centre, where there are shops, restaurants, museums, various historical monuments and a rather dried-out cricket pitch, a legacy left by the British. Corfu also has strong Venetian influences, which you can see in the architecture.

Typical excursions include island tours, 4x4 expeditions, mountain biking and visits to Achilleion Palace, built by the queen of the Austro-Hungarina Empire, Elizabeth , better known as Sissy, at the end of the 19th-century. After her assassination, the palace was bought by the Kaiser William II of Gremany. Today, it's a popular excursion thanks to its beautiful formal gardens, full of exotic flowers, with the imposing figures of Achilles dominating the centre.
