One of the most popular ports of call in the Mediterranean, a visit to medieval Dubrovnik is like a step back in time as you walk around the old walls, overlooking palaces, fortresses and squares paved with marble.

Ships dock about 20 minutes' drive by coach from the old city, after sailing through a beautiful archipelago of rocky islands. Most cruise lines offer shuttles to the city, which you enter through a narrow gate. The views from the walls are stunning, and the walk around takes about an hour, or longer if you stop for cool drinks.
