Cruise Holidays To Grand Cayman

Overview

Pier - Grand CaymanGrand Cayman is the largest in the Cayman Islands archipelago, south of Cuba and northwest of Jamaica. The island is famous for its diving, its conservation efforts, and as an offshore financial centre - there are over 500 banks and insurance companies here. Beaches are spectacular and there are some good excursions, not least the trip to Hell, a spiky, black volcanic landscape that has its own post office, so you can send a card with a Hell postmark. Stingray City is also popular, where visitors can stand amongst the very tame stingrays in shallow water.

Grand Cayman is a tender port and passengers are ferried to one of two docks in downtown George Town, within easy walking distance of the shops and the beginning of Seven Mile Beach, one of the Caribbean's finest, with white sand and clear, shallow water. Tours to Stingray City operate from here. You can also visit the Cayman Turtle Farm, home to 16,000 turtles (the babies are released into the sea) and an important conservation centre.

Good buys include duty free goods, jewellery, antiques, old maps, perfumes, cosmetics, gemstones, local paintings, rugs, sculpture and rum cakes, all available in George Town, as well as volcanic gifts and gimmicks at Hell.
