Cruise Holidays To Guadeloupe

Overview

Guadeloupe, a department of France, was discovered by Columbus and forms part of the Lesser Antilles. It is actually made up of two separate islands, the rolling countryside and sugar plantations of Grand Terre on the east contrasting with the rugged, mountainous Basse Terre on the west, where you can visit to the spectacular La Soufriere volcano or swim in the waterfall of Chute de Carbet.

Ships dock right by the town of Pointe-a-Pitre in the centre of the island, which has some interesting French colonial architecture and a good covered market. There are two or three shopping streets where you can buy French designer labels, perfumes and accessories and some excellent restaurants serving a fusion of French and Caribbean cuisine.
