Cruise Holidays To Hammerfest
Overview
Hammerfest is the world's northernmost city, nestled in the wide bay of the Province of Finnmark. This is a fishing port and thanks to the Gulf Stream, is ice-free year-round despite its northerly situation.
In summer, this is the last point of ‘civilisation’ before the remote North Cape and tends to be a stop off on Midnight Sun cruises in June and July. Hammerfest, like Tromso, used to be a starting point for Arctic expeditions in the 19 th century. Nowadays, it’s popular mainly for shopping, watching the trawlers, and visiting the Polar Bear Society ( Isbjørnklubben) with a unique collection of artefacts from the town’s history as an Arctic fishing and whaling town, as well as a lot of stuffed birds.
