Cruise Holidays To Martinique
Overview
Like Guadeloupe, Martinique is officially a part of France. Its bustling capital, Fort de France, is packed with flavours of France, including bakeries and patisseries, chic sidewalk cafes and designer fashions. Ships dock either close to the centre at the Pointe Simon terminal or at the commercial port, a short taxi ride to the east.
Things to see include Central Park, with its flowering gardens and fountains, historic Fort Saint Louis, the Cathedral and Library. Most cruise lines offer tours that take in the Paul Gauguin Memorial, the Museum of Empress Josephine, (wife of Napoleon) and the Museum of Seashell Art. You can also visit the Regional Natural Park to climb the volcanic Mount Pelee. Nearby is the ruins of St Pierre, a town which was devastated by the eruption of the volcano in 1902, with a fascinating Vulcanology Museum.
