Overview

Nice is a major city, sprawling around the Baie des Angles, the famous, palm-lined Promenade des Anglais running the entire length of the beach, a great spot for people-watching.

Ships dock at the eastern end of the bay, from which it’s a short walk to the old town (Vieux Nice) and the castle gardens, up 400 steps. The Cours Saleya in the old town is the best and most atmospheric place to eat. This is also the location of the amazing fish, flower and vegetable market, held every day except Monday.

In town, there are various museums and galleries to see, while excursions run to Eze and St- Paul-de-Vence, both pretty medieval villages in spectacular hilltop locations.
