Overview

St Vincent is the largest of the 32 Grenadines islands and the main dock is outside Kingstown, the tiny capital, at a smart new cruise terminal with shops and restaurants. Things to see include the impressive Botanic Gardens, the nature trails through the rainforest and the somewhat taxing climb of the La Soufriere volcano, which takes a day and requires you to be physically fit and to plan ahead.

It’s also possible to take the ferry across to tiny Bequia, a one hour trip, for smart shops, watersports and soft, white sand beaches (those on St Vincent are black and volcanic). Some ships, mainly smaller ones, also call at Mayreau island for watersports and beaches, or drop anchor in the Tobago Cays for swimming and snorkelling.
