Cruise Holidays To St Petersburg
Overview
St Petersburg is breathtakingly beautiful, with awe-inspiring sights like the Winter Palace and the Hermitage, as well as canals, ornate Orthodox churches and colourful flea markets. If you’re lucky, and on a smaller ship, you will dock in the centre of the city on the Neva River, although larger vessels have to use the commercial port, a 20-minute bus ride away. You can get a visa (in advance) to explore independently but most people enter Russia on a group visa and take part in the shore excursions.
Don’t miss the fantastic Hermitage, the world’s greatest art collection. Most visitors head straight for the Impressionist wing but there’s easily enough for three days. Other excursions include the Peterhof Imperial Palace, and evening performances of the Kirov Ballet.
Save your shopping for the flea markets, which are cheaper and more fun than the government-run souvenir shops.
