Cruise Holidays To Toulon

Overview

Toulon has been the principal naval base of France for three centuries and retains the sense of traditional charm in the old, narrow streets between the Vieux Port and the town centre. The city itself is overlooked by old forts and the imposing mass of Mont Faron. Offshore to the east are the Iles d’Hyeres, a popular national park, while in the hinterland are the mountains and vineyards of the Var.

The old town is located directly behind the port, just along the busy seafront from the passenger terminal. If your ship docks in the morning, head straight for Le Marche, the dazzlingly colourful fruit and vegetable market on Cours Lafayette. The market is open till 2.30pm daily. For a panoramic view, take the funicular up Mont Faron.

Some cruise lines run shuttles to the beaches, while other excursions include tours of the medieval hilltop villages of the Provencal countryside, and visits to the dramatic Verdon ‘Grand Canyon’. St Tropez, Nice, Cannes, Antibes and Monaco an hour or more to the east.
