Cruise Holidays To Tromso

Overview

TromsoTromso, way north of the Arctic Circle, is generally seen as the cultural centre of the Arctic and is the largest city in Norway’s northern region. One of its rather ambitious nicknames is ‘ Paris of the North’, although the city is sleepy by any standards. You can walk into the centre (it’s very small) from the ship and explore the shops and bars – there is even a local brewery.

The magnificent Arctic Ocean Cathedral is not to be missed and neither is the Polaria Arctic Experience centre. You can also visit the planetarium and the old districts with beautiful wooden houses, or take the cable car up Mount Storsteinen, for sweeping views.

It’s easy to imagine the original Arctic explorers setting off from here. The city ends abruptly and the landscape quickly becomes a vast, forested wilderness, and there’s a certain frontier feel about the place.
