Cruise Holidays To Trondheim
Overview
Located on the central west Norwegian coast, on a fjord at the mouth of the River Nid, this was the first Norwegian capital, founded as Nidaros some 1,000 years ago. Norway's kings and queens are still crowned in the 12th century Nidaros Cathedral, Scandinavia's largest medieval building and one of Europe's foremost Gothic monuments.
Trondheim is a city built of wood. Stiftsgården Palace is one of Norway’s largest and most impressive wooden buildings. The wooden buildings lining the river to the east and Fjordgata street to the north are also impressive, and there is more local architecture to admire across the old city bridge at Bakklandet. There’s also an open air folk culture museum which gives a good insight into local life through the ages.
